Aquiring a dog in this day and age isn't the same as 30 years ago, when finding your best buddy involved all the precision of walking over to see the neighbor's accidental litter, or responding to a classified advertisement in the local daily paper. Although some have (quite miraculously I might add) ended up with the dog from heaven from this non-method, this is most often not the case. Buying a puppy from some distance is not the risky business it may seem initially. A reputable breeder is one who has taken extraordinary steps and spent way too much money to ensure that the pup you get off that airplane temperamentally and conformationally correct, physically healthy, and likely to stay that way. This breeder is most likely not in your back yard!
A properly crated puppy shipped on certain major airline carriers is likely a happier, safer traveler than many humans. Federal regulations and liability concerns have made U.S. and foreign carriers the responsible folks they should be. Add the slight novelty of transporting an adorable cocker instead of a surly business executive and one can feel secure that air personnel will see to it that concerns such as temperature, water, ventilation, connections, etc. are attended to. We have never had a missed connection or had an injured pup on a flight and don't expect to!
