Cocker Spaniel puppies should have their first grooming experience at 3 weeks of age, then should receive a weekly session until six months. This will not only keep them looking good, but it will train them for their lifetime of grooming needs. Cockers should be brushed and combed once a week with professional trims every 4-6 weeks. Eyes, ears, teeth, and nails should be carefully checked. Baths are an important part of grooming, but your cocker should be thoroughly brushed with a soft slicker or pin brush and any mats worked out first, then thoroughly dried afterwards, as a wet dog will quickly turn into a matted dog!
When looking for a groomer, be sure and look for an IPG Certified Master Groomer! Also, if you see a dog that looks amazing, while you're out and about, ask the owner! "Where do you get your dog groomed?" Word of mouth is the best referral! We utilize and highly recommend Capital City Grooming & Supply in Olympia, Washington. All the groomers are certified Master Groomers, and all do an amazing job!
